Boromir, son of Gondor

Este personaje te cautiva desde el momento que lo lees en el libro o lo ves en pantalla, sobretodo al final. Con un aire de nostalgia y pesimismo, Boromir es el ícono del guerrero prodigio que busca lo mejor para el reino de Gondor, su gente. Pero como todo los hombres en la Tierra Media, es víctima del anillo.

Es una escena de ''La comunidad del anillo'' donde hay un momento clave para Boromir, teniendo el anillo frente a él después de que Frodo lo pierde en una caída, recogiéndolo de entre la nieve diciendo 'It is a strange fate that we should suffer so much fear and doubt over so small a thing. Such a little thing.' Una de mis líneas favoritas, que por cierto, en la locación donde fue filmada en lo alto de una montaña, Sean Bean estaba atemorizado de tomar el helicóptero de regreso a tierra firme, tiene una fobia aguda a las alturas (y helicópteros), por lo que en las siguientes escenas que involucraban transportarse en ellos a terrenos altos decidió  ir en carro, caminar o escalar. Supongo que ese miedo lo canalizó en la escena porque salió perfecta.

This character captivates you in book and film, especially at the end.  With an air of nostalgia and pessimism, Boromir is a warrior stereotype who seeks the best for the kingdom of Gondor, his people. But like all men in Middle-Earth, he is corrupted by the ring's power.

It is a scene of ''The Fellowship of the Ring'' where there is a key moment for Boromir, picking up the ring after Frodo lost it in the snowy mountains, saying 'It is a strange fate that we should suffer fear and doubt so much over so small a thing. Such a little thing'. Sean Bean had a hard time filming this scene since it was shot on top of a mountain and he is apparently afraid of heights (and helicopters). He couldn't stop thinking of the way back inside the helicopter. So, in the following scenes involving transportation by air, he decided to ride, walk or climb to the location. I guess that his fear was transmitted into the scene because it came out perfectly.

daily doodle 16: Merry & Pippin

Estos dos son el escape cómico de la trilogía, al menos en las primeras dos películas. Llegados por mera casualidad, estos dos personajes agregan valor al mensaje de la amistad que Frodo y Sam comunican. Lo interesante de esta relación es que sucede una ruptura después del capítulo de Treebeard y toman caminos distintos, cada uno creciendo emocionalmente por su lado: Merry en Rohan y Pippin en Minas Tirith.

These two are the comic relief of the trilogy, at least in the first two films. These two add value to the message of friendship that Frodo and Sam live, but the interesting thing about this relationship is that they take different paths after the chapter of Treebeard, each one growing emotionally by their own will: Merry in Rohan and Pippin in the city of Minas Tirith.

daily doodle 15: Samwise the brave

   El fiel amigo de Frodo. Estuve unos días fuera de la ciudad pero regreso con una de las escenas más memorables del libro y de la película. Es curioso que Sam (Sean Astin), a diferencia de los otros hobbits, no imita un acento inglés y no creo que haya sido por falta de habilidad. Fuera de eso, creo que hizo un buen trabajo, era un personaje muy exigente en cuestión de emociones y actividad física, a diferencia de otros tantos que ha hecho a lo largo de su carrera. Definitivamente el más memorable.

   La pelea con Shelob es uno de los capítulos del libro que no podías dejar de leer hasta terminarlo, cuando creías que todo se había perdido llega Sam con 'la luz de Earendil' y Sting, podías imaginarte la desesperación y miedo que sentía el personaje al enfrentarse a este horrible y gigante monstruo. De mis capítulos favoritos de todo el libro sin duda.

     Frodo's faithful friend. I spent a few days out of town but returned with one of the most memorable scenes from both the book and the film. It is curious that Sam Gamgee (Sean Astin), unlike the other hobbits, didn't have an English accent and I don't think it was due to lack of skill, it is kind of a mistery to me. Beyond that, I think he did a good job, it was a very demanding role in the emotional and physical aspect, unlike many others parts he has played throughout his career. Definitely the most memorable.
    The fight with Shelob is one of the chapters of the book you could not stop reading,when you thought all was lost Sam grabs 'the light of Earendil' and Sting to pick up a fight. You could imagine the desperation and fear that goes through his body once he encounters this big horrible monster. Still, he fights. Definitely one of my favorite chapters of the entire book.

Las mujeres juegan una pequeña parte en el Señor de los Anillos. Tolkien hizo primordialmente una historia sobre la guerra, por lo que se tuvo que enfocar a desarrollar soldados, aliados y enemigos así como los reinos involucrados. A pesar tener poca participación, personajes como Galadriel o Éowyn son de gran importancia por lo eventos que desencadenan en la historia.
Me gustó mucho lo que Cate Blanchett hizo con el personaje, misteriosa, intrigante y con una voz profunda que te evoca la sabiduría de sus años. El concepto y diseño de la ciudad de Lothlórien es de lo más impresionante y hermoso que haya visto. Está basado en la ausencia de esquinas del Art Noveau y era casi obvio tomar inspiración de Alphonse Mucha para este diseño.

Women play a small part in the Lord of the Rings. Tolkien was writing primarily a story about war, so he had to focus on developing soldiers, allies and enemies as well as the kingdoms involved. Despite having little involvement, characters like Galadriel and Éowyn are incredibly important to the events in the story.
I really liked what Cate Blanchett did with the character: mysterious, intriguing and with a deep voice that evokes the wisdom of her years. The concept and design of the city of Lothlorien is one of the most impressive and beautiful I've ever seen. It is based on the absence of corners of Art Nouveau and it was obvious for me to get inspired by the work of Alphonse Mucha for this design. 

daily doodle 12: Legolas

Ni tan diarios estos bocetos. Había empezado éste pero no me di el tiempo de terminarlo hasta hoy. Este personaje me daba curiosidad ver cómo saldría en la película, me gustaba la manera en que lo conocías a través de la amistad/rivalidad con Gimli y su vibra melancólica y misteriosa. En la película está bien caracterizado, su traje y aspecto físico, pero en actuación se nota que fue éste fue el primer papel serio de Orlando Bloom. Forma parte de excelentes escenas de acción y de un par de malísimos chistes.

Not so daily sketches but, finally here's a new one. Legolas was one of the characters in the book that I was looking forward to see in film, definitely you knew more about him due to the friendship/rivalry with Gimli and his melancholic and mysterious feeling. In the film, I think it is well characterized, the costume and physical appearance, but in acting performance it was noticeable that this was the first significant role for Orlando Bloom. He is part of excellent action scenes and a couple of lousy jokes.
